The Tree House Tree
Prints of original 8"x10" Charcoal Drawing (Prints are archival quality giclees)
"The Tree House Tree" is the tree that my grandfather, Daddy Slaughter, put our tree house up in. The Tree House was made just for that tree and it was brilliant! It wasn't a permanent tree house. It was only up, made with plywood and tied with ropes, when my sister and I came to visit. It was always so exciting to come around the corner and see the tree house up in the tree, made especially for us and only for when we were actually there!
The branches are very specific and even though I didn't draw the tree house they needed to be just right to be able to recognize that that is the tree that the Tree House fit in and so this is a Tree Portrait.
It is not just any tree, it is The Tree House Tree. It is also a Memorial Tree Portrait because this special tree was sadly blown down by a hurricane a couple of years ago. This is not the first hurricane this tree had been through. Somewhere in the early 1970s I remember my grandparents living in a trailer in their driveway because a Hurricane severely damaged their garage and part of their house but the Tree House Tree was fine. It was a big strong beautiful tree.
It is not only a Memorial Tree Portrait because it is gone but because it holds so many good memories over the years of wonderful times together. It was a part of us and the love we all had for each other. I thank God for that Tree, I thank God for the memories, and I thank God for the reminder that all things on this earth are passing and we need to enjoy them in the moment, be grateful and not take anything for granted. That is the reason for this drawing of the Tree House Tree which is a Memorial Tree Portrait.
"He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper."
Psalms 1:3
